It’s said that one of the best ways to memorize information is having fun. What about applying this concept to IELTS academic vocabulary and play a bingo?
The preparation process to an international certification as IELTS can be really overwhelming. Besides developing skills, studying the test structure, students are expected to develop a formal, academic vocabulary.
In order to boost my students memorization process and offer them a break to relax (and keep learning at the same time), I have created a bingo using a list of 34 academic words and their equivalent everyday words. As I used a Flippity template it is ready to play online on computers or smartphones.
In the link below you can find the word list, bingo cards and a randomizer to help you “call” the words.
The bingo cards can be changed by selecting new board:
Open the randomizer or the wordlist in your computer, open the bingo card and share the link with your students, tell them to choose a new board, by selecting “new board” (as shown in the picture above). Other option is sharing your screen with the QR code and tell them to read it in their smartphones.
As you play, if no student has the word to mark, you should give them the answer, so besides helping them to clarify meaning you be helping them to memorize.
Finally, feel free to download this material and add some fun to vocabulary lessons, but remember: before playing, it is essential that the students have already had contact with these vocabulary so you can use this activity as a revision

If you have any suggestion, I’ll be happy to listen 😉 If you use this game, tag me on Instagram @teacher.angelaventura . I’d be happy to see it 🙂
Have fun!
