Business English Speaking Cards

Hello, fellow teachers,

I have been teaching Business English for some years. However, I still find that it is one of the most challenging types of lessons to plan. It demands staying updated with trends, jargon, and the fast-changing corporate world. Moreover, the classes have to be well-sequenced and engaging.

Considering that, before the classes, the students had been working for an entire day, it is easy to assume that they can struggle to stay focused if the lesson is dull and repetitive. Additionally, these students usually work in very demanding environments. Sometimes, when they have to be focusing on the lesson tasks, they are still worried about work-related issues.

Accessing the websites of specialized magazines and newspapers is the way I found to keep updated with the corporate language and topics.

In class, I try to gamify my lessons as much as possible. Bringing an element of surprise to everyday discussions, promoting healthy competition, using colorful materials, and sharing funny or cute photos bring some joy and a good laugh. Ultimately, these resources will result in students engaged in the lesson, allowing them to set aside their work-related worries.
